Volunteer Opportunities with FSCR 2011- 2012
We will continue to expand our volunteer efforts by working on properties owned by The Nature Conservancy along the Santa Clara River, as well as at the Hedrick Ranch Nature Area. Our first effort on Nov. 6th was rained out, so we will try again on Dec 3rd. Volunteers will meet at the gate at the end of Hallock Drive. To reach the property, take Hwy 126 and go south on Hallock Drive (at the traffic light on the east side of Santa Paula). Continue to the end of the road and park at the TNC gate at the end. The gate will be opened at 8am for birding, and restoration activities will begin about 9am and go until 11:30. As usual, wear safe field attire, including closed toe shoes and long pants.
The location of future workdays will be posted in this newsletter and emailed to our members and volunteers two weeks prior to the event. Substantial rain cancels these events!! Workdays have been scheduled for the following dates:

The 2011-2012 workdays will be at various locations along the Santa Clara River, including properties owned by The Nature Conservancy near Santa Paula.
The first workday will be on October 8th at the Hedrick Ranch Nature Area (directions below). The locations of future workdays will be posted on the FSCR website and emails will be sent out at least two weeks prior to the event. For each workday, plan to meet at 9:00 am and finish by 11:30 or 12:00. Bring water and sun protection; we have some tools and gloves, but it's always nice to bring your own. Note: Some locations will not have porta-pottie or other facilities.
LONG PANTS AND BOOTS OR CLOSED SHOES ARE REQUIRED
For the safety of our volunteers (and the local rattlesnakes), this dress code will be strictly enforced!!

Directions to the Hedrick Ranch Nature Area from Ventura
- East on Hwy 126.
- Exit 10th Street (Santa Paula).
- Left at the end of the off ramp.
- Right on Harvard (first light).
- Right on 12th street (first intersection). 12th Street turns into South Mountain Road after crossing the Santa Clara River & going around a curve to the left.
- Go 3.7 miles to #20395 South Mountain Road on the left.
- Turn left onto the dirt road and follow to the end (~ 1/2 mile).
